PoW Camp 299 Godwin Camp

The former Godwin Camp PoW Camp is now two adjacent Caravan sites, one active on not so active and possibly covering the adjacent lots. It really is the worst place / location I have come across as the site for a camp !

I have visited former PoW sites from one of the country to the other, but this site is unique in the sense of isolation and perhaps dispare. Yes, it was a cold damp day of my visit but this site is located next to a small village at what almost feels like the end of civilization on the Spurn Head peninsula.

The site today is made up of what appears to be two separate caravan sites one of which appears to be semi derelict with the other clean new and and in use. It is at the older site where a items have been preserved. There exists here an unusual hut based on that of a Nissen Hut. Whether the structure of the intact hut plus hut base had been built that way originally or had been built at latter date it is not possible to say without further information.
