Darras Hill is an upmarket area of housing to the West of Newcastle both at the time the camp was built and today. The site was cleared many years ago and The Parklands Housing Development consisting of manly large houses were built on the site of the former camp. In taking with one of the householders I was told that he himself found out about the sites history on discovering the remains of the camps drains in this garden.
Oddly enough many of the documents in general circulation have this camp as Darras Hill, named for the village in which it is located. However, the actual name of the site is Darras Hall, Ponteland. This is clearly identified in the UK Foreign Office Inspection Report (National Archive ID 939/150) PoW Camp 69 as Darras Hall, a part of which is shown at the bottom of the page.
