Hetton House is a large Stately Home between Wooler and Chatton and was used in part to accommodate British Troops that guarded the PoW Camps. As with many such “Houses” the Camp consisted of a series of Huts. In the case of this site The Camp itself was across the road from the main house and has since been cleared with some bases remaining.
It is interesting to note that there are two PoW Camp 105’s quite together. This is the older of the two camps as we Wooler the other 105 is included (just) within a 1947 list of camps.
On the day of my visit to this site I was fortunate enough to meet the current tenant whose house is on the PoW site. The gentleman showed me a number of hut bases I his garden and within the adjacent wood land.
