PoW Camp 271 RAF Deopham Green

Deopham was a former USAAF and has since been removed. The site of PoW Camp 271 would have been in one of the Technical or Domestic Dispersed Sites. A number of such sites still exist as small industrial and farm units. However, which was used as the camp is not known

Description

RAF Deopham Green, also known as USAAF airfield 142 and locally as Ellington airfield was a War Time Emergency Construction Program Airfield, that is to say it was built using PreFab and standardised buildings at multiple dispersed sites. Originally used by the RAF its main use was by the USAAF.

At some point one of the Dispersed Technical or Domestic sites was used as a PoW Camp. However, it is not known which of the sites was used.

On my visit to this site I found and photographed a number of the various dispersed sites with evidence of and or containing some of the original buildings; some in use, some derelict.
