PoW Camp 180 Radwinter North

There are no traces of the former PoW Camp in the grounds, but the place is almost the definition of an English Large Country House with the field that held the camp now full of buttercups amid long grass

Radwinter is a large former Rectory that post war been divided into two separate homes and two other houses have been built to its immediate West. I talked to the owners of both the smaller and larger parts of the main house and was told that the PoW Camp had been located in the grounds directly to the south of the Manor in a field known as the paddock a field full of buttercups when I visited. I took several images using both DSLR and Drone Cameras but could not find any traces of the former camp.

Several things that interest me about this site though is that it was a “Youth Camp” used to holder younger German PoWs. The entire camp was later moved to Camp 45 Trumpington. The other thing is at the moment for me an open question as to why it was called “North”?

Malcolm Sanders in his link at the bottom of this page has some collated some interesting things about the PoWs at this site.
